Chicora's reports are routinely sent to a variety of institutions as part of our efforts to make the information widely available to the general public. Of course we do sell copies of our studies and for more information please check out our Ordering page. Our Research Series are available at a number of institutions, including the South Carolina State Library, South Caroliniana Library, S.C. Department of Archives and History Search Room, S.C. Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Library of Congress, College of Charleston Library, South Carolina Historical Society, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Library, University of Michigan Library, New York City Public Library, Mississippi State University Library, Harvard University Library, Huntington Free Library, Virginia Department of Historic Resources Library and the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Archaeology Branch Library. Some titles are also available at various public libraries in South Carolina (for example the Charleston County and Beaufort County libraries have a number of our publications that deal with their specific geographic areas). Some of these institutions permit interlibrary loan of our reports -- check with your local ILL librarian for additional information. Our Research Series are all sent to the Library of Congress (since we participate in the CIP program). Consequently, they will be easily found in OCLC, WorldCat, and similar library title databases. Likewise, our Research Series (and many of our other publications) are also added to the Bowker Books-In-Print catalog, making it easy for local bookdealers (and libraries) to locate our publications. Our Research Contributions are smaller reports, generally of less interest, and so are sent to fewer institutions. They are, however, available at the South Carolina State Library, the South Caroliniana Library, and the S.C. Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. Reports dealing with other states are always sent to the SHPO of that state and some titles are also available at various public libraries in South Carolina. Some of these institutions permit interlibrary loan of our reports -- check with your local ILL librarian for additional information. Chicora is justifiably proud of our efforts to make certain that our research is widely available to the public through a variety of sources. We are one of the very few archaeological organizations that puts meaning in the term "public archaeology." |
